DIVERSITY: PETIT PAPILLON!

 « PETIT PAPILLON »

Un petit Papillon s'interroge sur sa différence avec les grands et beaux Papillons. Une histoire sur la tolérance, la diversité et la différence. « Nous sommes tous différents. La différence fait la force. Si nous étions tous pareils, rien ne serait amusant! »

We read a great story called "Petit Papillon". A small butterfly was questioning why it is different from the big butterflies. This is a story about tolerance, diversity and difference.

The story helped the children in the classroom to understand that:

We are different, we are the same.

We learned from the story that we should be willing to accept and respect differences.
If there was no difference, there would be no fun!

Les papillons de la salle K4

  • We are learning that all persons have value and that we can benefit from accepting and welcoming individual differences.
  • We are demonstrating respect and consideration for individual differences.
  • We are showing respect for and acceptance of differences.

The kids cut and coloured each their own butterfly as they liked. In the end, they all came out different and beautiful.

We are different but we are all the same. Our differences make us strong!

Forest Valley Outdoor Education Learning Trip (K4)

To support our student's learning in and about the outdoors, today, K4 Students had the opportunity to investigate their school yard for different types of learning activities. This investigation should help them gather a sense of place, observing details, and practice their oral communication. They shared their findings through a talking circle, discussing what they learned about their outside surroundings. By participating in all of the below activities, students interacted, engaged and had a lot of fun!

    1. - Snowshoeing (winter activity)
    2. - Camping activity
    3. - Forms activity
    4. - Literacy activity with the alphabet
    5. - Construction activity with blocks
    6. - Music activity with drums
    7. - Great backyard bird counting activity.

Old man and the river

On December 2nd, our students had a chance to attend this beautifully designed puppetry performance.

Per the introduction flyer:
"A grumpy little old man lives in his little house in the woods by the river.
Every day is the same and he likes it this way-until one day, a magical creature leaps into his world
and everything changes!"

After the performance,
the students were able to recognize and talk about kindness
and how to be kind to each other to be happy:

Making compliments and saying nice words to my friends. (Eden)

Playing fairly with little brother and sister (Claire, Fiona, Jamie, Albert, Leila and Oliver)

Playing with family members maths games and cuddle Mom (Faye)

Giving hugs to Mom and Dad (Inaaya, Abduladil, Bushara)

Feeding the cat and be kind to animals (Thrustin)

Picking flowers for my little sister (Renley)

Playing together with my friends (Eva, Kosta, Maya, Kiara, Najla)

Some other learning activities taking place in K4:

Eva and Abduladil on the light table.
Eva said: "There is a superlight at the table and you can see very brightly. It was very pretty for me."

_____________

In K4, we are learning about the 2D shapes.
What can you create today with the loose parts and the 2D shapes?

Inaaya is building a tower using blocks.

Eden is building a castle using 2D shapes.

Thrustin is using the loose parts to build a 2D shape.

Jamie is stacking circles to discover how long he can go building a tower.

Najla is making a springle surprise. The springle around a rainbow colour with gems and shapes.

Jamie is discovering the 2D shapes with the blocks.

Eva said that she is using her imagination making a craft with shapes and loose parts.

Kosta is making a sun with the 2D shapes.

Oliver is making a king!

Bushra is making a sun and flowers.

Renley is creating a bunny with gems and triangles.

Leila is using shapes to create flowers with circles!

With shapes, Fiona is building a road (bridge) for the frog!

We are experimenting:
what is floating and what is sinking?

Bushra is experimenting and observing:" the heavy things are sinking and the light things are floating."

Jamie is experimenting and has discovered that the gems and the rocks "coulent". The balls "flottent".

Maya is experimenting and observed that the pompom and the ball "flottent".
The gems and the shells "coulent".

Eva also is experimenting and observe that the rocks are sinking and the balls are floating.

We are experimenting with writing in K4.

After reading a funny book on eating 2D shapes, "Les Formes", students were very engaged and interested in solving the puzzle putting the different parts of the sentence together to read it and copy it on the white board. We are learning to leave spaces between words and reading strategy with 1 to 1 correspondence.

Faye is experimenting writing the 1st sentence.

Claire is experimenting writing the 1st sentence.

Albert is experimenting writing the sentence he built.

Faye asked to build and write another sentence.

Claire also chose to build and write another sentence.

Kiara is happy with her achievement. She builds a sentence and copy it on the white board.

Bravo K4! Keep it up!
